This summer has been a busy one at Chandi. June was a record month for us (thanks to all of you believing in light!) and, of course as always happens, it was the month right before our move and before our summer show. While the studio move was just a mile away, as you know if you have ever moved, it may as well have been a thousand miles, as everything gets upturned. And with Chandi, it is both fortunate and not that it was immensely more involved than moving a warehouse or office. Because everything is created in studio or locally, we operate simultaneously as a design studio where ideas are first conceived, a creative studio where those conceived ideas are brought into being, a design/wholesale business that services the industry, and now, in our new space, a showroom in which we interact daily with the public.
My vision for the new space includes a retail store, bringing in local artisans who create home accessories that complement the Chandi vision, as well as offering repair and restoration services and, most exciting, offering workshops in which people are encouraged to express their own creativity in design and hands-on creation of chandeliers, jewelry, and art (working in collaboration with local artists such as Eve-Marie Bergren, who held an amazing encaustic workshop at the studio earlier this summer.)
The other thing happening is that we are making more direct connections with international suppliers for our crystal components, rather than going through national distributors. It is both exciting and a bit frustrating as we establish relationships to ensure that the quality of crystal is up to Chandi standards and that we have an understanding of expectation as far as both product and time of production are concerned. While this has the immediate effect of creating slight delays in Chandi production, what it ultimately means is that we will be stocking more of everything in order to better accommodate your specific needs as clients.
In addition, we welcomed Bhumi, Zack, and Jennie to the already amazing Chandi team this summer and I am so grateful for the gifts they have brought with them. Madison, Dave, Holly, Jeff, Dirk, and Kathleen remain my incredible force of support for any creation.
Feeling into all that is happening, I make a connection to the growing pains I experienced in my bones as a child. I know enough to keep my eye on the larger picture, trusting there is a greater purpose and amazing growth happening, yet I regret that lead-time on your Chandi creations has grown, even if just temporarily. I pride myself on exceeding your expectations!
When it comes down to it, I would rather have you wait a little longer for the Chandi you deserve than to rush you a piece unworthy of the name. I did that (just once) and it was all I expected and worse. It’s just not who we are! I appreciate your patience as we settle into our new environs and a fresh approach to our business that will ultimately serve all of us well. I remain truly committed to the small details which make Chandi unique.
I hope you are having an amazing summer! Warmest regards – Meredith
